Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase

Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase

Project Overview

This is our second year in producing the voting portal for the shortlist of entries for the New Directors Showcase, drawn up by Saatchi & Saatchi's Worldwide Creative Board.

Over the last two decades, the New Directors Showcase has been quick to identify such talented directors as Fredrik Bond, Nicolai Fuglsig, Jonathan Glazer, Michel Gondry, Spike Jonze, Danny Kleinman, Traktor and Ivan Zacharias.

As with previous years we developed a platform where the creative board could submit entries from their international offices, discuss online with each other and vote on the winning directors to make the shortlist.

Saatchi & Saatchi invites submissions from directors across the globe and used its network of some 140 offices worldwide, as well as relationships with key on-line sources (including the wonderful BUG). From an initial line up of several hundred directors, the Saatchi & Saatchi Worldwide Creative Board were able to make the final selection of just 20.

Getting the Video Content onto the Site.

Each member of the Creative Board were allocated various levels of access to use the site. Those in control of uploading the video content were able, by using a simple step by step upload process, create the relevant pages where the videos were to be voted upon.

Spotbox Intergration

As with all of our video based sites we used our own video hosting platform Spotbox to create the necessary conversions as well as the delivery and management of the video on the site. Those uploading content could use a variety of video file formats.

Voting for your Favorite Director

Voting was simple, presented with a video where you would make a choice of whether to vote it 'in' or 'out'. Begin undecided wouldn't be a problem as you could also flag it for 'follow up' to make your decision at a later date.

Those voting could also comment on the videos if they felt it necessary to voice their opinion as to why they thought it should make the shortlist.

As many of the board were rather busy individuals we made it possible to resume voting from where they left off everytime they logged in. Making a decision would automatically send them to the next video in the playlist. Having literally hundreds of videos, the ability to quickly sift through videos was paramount.

Individual Voting Activity

Each user had their own activity log so that it was possible to see how many videos they still had left to make a decision on.

New content was being uploaded constantly during the weeks the judging was taking place making the users activity an important part to the judging portal so as not to let some poor director miss out on being voted upon.

Who had the most votes... who was to win?

For the main administrators there was a page that detailed how many votes each video had had.. using some clever mathematics we were able to clearly show who was the most voted in director out of all the submissions and who would make their mother proud in Cannes.
