Project Overview
AEI Media Ltd operates some of the leading and fastest growing brands in the electronic music genre. They do commercial TV advertised compilation albums, record labels, music retail, event ticketing but most importantly they host and live stream large scale events as well as produce weekly streamed video casts to a ridiculously large fan base.
Functionality of the Live Streaming App:
AEI Media - "So we have an existing Live Streaming player on our site but its getting a little tired and falls over sometimes when there's an large volume of traffic tuning in to watch the stream, we've seen what you guys do, so do you have any suggestions?"
Paperheads - "Facebook"
AEI Media - "huh?"
Paperheads - "Facebook... its the perfect audience platform for you guys, we can do loads of cool things with it" AEI Media - "right?"
Paperheads - "Have you thought about having a totally self-managed branded live streaming Facebook App that can engage viewers through its social network where it is also embeddable on your main site and available for anyone else who wishes to place the player on their blog, site or other social network pages etc? You can manage everything through your Facebook account... a flock of birds with one stone, so to speak. The other great thing is that other people can add the App to their own Facebook pages allowing your player to be promoted elsewhere to more audiences without you having to lift a finger" AEI Media - "Great"
Paperheads - "We can build the App to do loads of cool stuff, we started doing this with our Tuborg and Smirnoff players for their Facebook campaigns and have since worked out other useful things we can do with our player Apps. You'd be able to automatically post to users newfeeds when they start watching the stream which then in turn promotes to all their friends that they are watching your event… Boom!!! you get more people tuning in and as more and more people tune into your event its gets pushed out to more and more friends networks"
AEI Media - "Woah"
Paperheads - "Yup… through the admin side of the App you'd also be able to automatically post updates to your newsfeed say a week, day, hour before the event or even when the event is happening.. don't do that too often otherwise you'll end up being a facebook spammer and people will hate you for it... useful tool though don't you think?"
AEI Media - "nice… and live chat we currently have one which proves popular?"
Paperheads - "Its a shame that Facebook's live chat is shit...er... not very good… currently it just doesn't work that well so we can build you a bespoke one. We can build it so there's 'live chat' when the event is 'Live' and then automatically revert to standard Facebook comments once the event is over and the recorded version is available... oh yeah and we can have an option to post what a user is blabbing on about in the live chat to appear on that users newsfeed.. basically social network shouting :-D.. plus building our own means we can brand it specific to the player so it doesn't look like a dirty Facebook plugin that's just been bolted on" AEI Media - "We do a lot of recorded events and live streams"
Paperheads - "Then we'll have the App set up so you guys can log in and add as many events as you like for both of your brands, one for UKFLive and the other for D&BTV. Both Apps can be branded by yourselves and you can add as many events and customise as much as you like…Change colours, add banner images etc.
| AEI Media - "We sell a lot of tickets to events.. currently we use our main site for that"
Paperheads - "lets add that into the App so you can administer tickets providing links through to your main site" AEI Media - "What about tracks?, is there a way to push people to our site to buy the tracks or at least know what track is being played through the player App."
Paperheads - "If you can get hold of a track list prior to the live event then we can make it possible for you to add those in so the viewer is presented with the track that is currently playing as the DJ is playing it. You can then link those to where you'd like the viewer to buy it from. If you don't have the track list then you can add those after the event when the recorded event session... We've done this before with our Tuborg Project and we also have a clever user based rating system for track listings on our B@.tv project " AEI Media - "brilliant... what about a Twitter feed?" Paperheads - "Slam that in there too, get people to tweet about it .. the usual"
AEI Media - "Cool… and what about large volumes of traffic currently it falls over?"
Paperheads - "Our own server network is totally scalable and expands and starts up new instances as the amount of viewers increase or decrease… they won't fall over so don't worry about that" AEI Media - "what about stats and tracking?"
Paperheads - "The great thing with Facebook Apps is that you get a whole load of tracking and statistics so you can really fine tune your marketing and see whats working in regards to promoting your events"
AEI Media - "So what your saying is ditch the live player we currently have"
Paperheads - "yup and use Facebook, we're telling most of our clients who do video streaming to plug into this thing.. there's a very good reason that geek is a billionaire, its the perfect audience grabber.. and for those who don't have a Facebook account they can watch the stream on your main site.. they just wont be able to chat or comment.. but hey that's not a bad thing, they can still tweet, buy tickets and watch your live and recorded events" **Please note that some of the conversation has been omitted as A) we're not giving away to every tom dick and harry what we can do unless we're round a table discussing a client project and B) Client confidentially shenanigans in regards to new features we'll be working on in the coming months.
